The main point that MLK attempted to portray in "Stride Toward Freedom" was to gain equality between races through a nonviolent protest, and through them being peaceful the violence coming from the police or whites would make them look like the enemy. His main point connects to this because he believes people should attempt to fight for their beliefs through peace before using violence.
Malcolm X's purpose was to allow blacks to defend themselves in violent circumstances, rather than standing and being beaten. His main point connects because he believes that peace should be attempted first, but in the circumstance that someone harms the peaceful person they should be allowed to fight back.
Overall the pieces are more similar in the aspect of the both want to achieve equality with peace and nonviolence, Malcolm is willing to fight for his people. Their life experiences affected their opinions in the way of MLK grew up in a decent family environment, and attended college to become a minister. Since Luther was a minister he learned to focus on love and showing love to your enemies. Malcolm X was affected by a lot of violence, and crime. Prior to going to jail he most likely would have supported a violent retaliation, but through his experience in jail he was given an insight that made him realize violence wasn't the first answer.

  2. 1)The main point of "Stride Toward Freedom" is that nonviolence is the only way to bring down the Jim Crow laws. The purpose of this speech was to influence the audience to refrain from violence.
2)The purpose of the interview of Malcom X was to clearly show what he thinks on how people should react and protect themselves from white supremacists. The main point of this interview was to point out that "we trust in the FBI to protect us and if they don't protect than who else will protect us besides ourselves."
3)They both want the unity of all African Americans around the world and want equal rights among everyone but they are different in the way they go about their opinions. Martin Luther King wants a brotherhood and integration with no violence involved but Malcom X wants separation and use of violence to protect themselves from white people and the government.
4)Malcom X's past was full of abuse and poverty with an unstable family when his father was murdered by white supremacists. His views were definitely affected and clouded by the anger of the murder of his father and they way the government and white people disrespected him and his family. This anger drove him to see only the solution that involved violence. Martin Luther King, on the other hand, had a stable childhood and had a good education. He became a pastor so because of his past, his judgment wasn't as influenced negatively. His nonviolent stance was because he did not have a rough upbringing like Malcom X.

    1. The purpose of MLK Jr.'s speech "Stride Toward Freedom" was to expose and explain his philosophy behind the non violent bus boycott. His main point throughout the entire speech is to prove that achieve equality, African Americans should be peaceful and be nonviolent. These two points connect because the purpose gives evidence and supports his philosophy of nonviolence and not to succumb to oppression.
    2. The purpose of Malcom X's interview was to give the Black Community permission to start using violence only as a mechanism of self defense and no more. His main point was to share his belief that if the government won't protect them then they should be able to protect themselves with violence. These two connect because the main point gives reason to him giving permission to the black community to use violence as a self defense mechanism.
    3. MLK Jr. and Malcom X have more differing views overall because MLK Jr. is entirely against the use of violence in any form and Malcom X believes that using violence as self defense is just. Despite their different views on violence, both men believe that the black community needs to gain full equality in the United States of America.
    4. MLK Jr. grew up in a good middle class home. He was attending college at age 15 and eventually became a pastor. His religious views helped shape his beliefs of using peaceful techniques and being nonviolent to achieve his goals. On the other hand, Malcom X grew up on the streets of Harlem in poverty, and was in prison by age 19. He was surrounded by violence from a young age as his dad was murdered by white supremacists. Following that event, his mother had a mental breakdown which led to her children being placed in foster care. His rough childhood and poor family life had an effect on the way he views how the black community should gain equality.

  4. The main point of "Stride Toward Freedom" was the African Americans needed to stand up for their rights, without violence. "Violence never brings permanent peace. It solves no social problem... It thrives on hatred rather than love" He supported fighting peacefully, for he believed violence was not a real solution. He believed individuals should sacrifice and take violence from the oppression and whites, for his purpose of the future society living peacefully together.

Malcolm X wanted people to arm themselves for self defense. Along with MLK, he didn't want to go out and attack, he just wanted the people to protect themselves for he believed they weren’t safe. "But I say that our people will never be respected as human beings until we react as other normal intelligent human beings do." His purpose was for the African Americans to be respected and have more power than they did at the time.

MLK and Malcolm X are more different than similar. Malcolm X wanted some violence while MLK believed there should be none. Although they both want more rights, Malcolm X wanted blacks to unite against the whites. Martin Luther wanted equality and integration.

Malcolm X's father was killed by a white supremacy, and his mother went insane having to look after him and his 7 siblings. He witnessed first hand the lows that some people have to go through, and it gave him a rather bleak outlook on white people. His childhood led to violence seeming almost normal, contradicting how MLK was raised. Martin Luther grew up in middle class as pastor's son. He was taught that violence was wrong, and he didn't witness the brutal violence Malcolm experienced.

  5. 1) The main point of "Stride Towards Freedom" is that there are many forms of responses to oppression, but only nonviolent methods work, without degrading the oppressed. Martin L. King Jr. wanted the African Americans to nonviolently stand up against the white oppressors.
    2) Malcom X called for the blacks to protect themselves from the injustices of the whites. Malcom wanted the blacks to arm themselves, but he did not want them to start any fights. Malcom claims throughout his career that the blacks need to stand up for themselves because no body else will, but Malcom did not want the blacks to go out and start anything.
    3) Overall Malcom X and MLK are pretty similar in the fact that they both want Black equality and an end to segregation. The difference is that Malcom wanted a country only for blacks, whereas MLK wanted the blacks to be an equal member of society. Also both men went about getting there wishes by very different ways, MLK wanted nonviolence, whereas Malcom made a call to arms.
    4) Malcolm was raised in poverty, had a father killed by white supremacists, and was transferred to an orphanage. He has much to be angry for, and brings this into his speeches. MLK was raised in a very cushioned environment, and is a reverend. He doesn't preach about anger, and only teaches love and happiness. This is the core of his speeches.

  6. 1. The main point about this speech is not to use violence but to protest in a legal was because if they were to use violence they wouldn’t be any better than the white man is.
    2. His speech he believes that violence is necessary to use if provoked with violence from the white man, violence is the answer to solving every problem if the white man starts it first. Do not use violence right away only use it if it is necessary to protect yourself.
    3. Overall the goal is the only thing they have in common but they both won’t to complete their goals by using different tactics to complete it. MLK ways are used by the voice of god and uses the bible to complete his goals when Malcolm X uses his own ways.
    4. MLK grew up in the middle class of Atlanta so he wasn’t in the violence as much as Malcolm X was growing up in the ghetto. MLK ways are more peaceful because he grew up in more of a peaceful way and to always follow the law but when Malcolm X grew up in the ghetto it was more of a violent place so his techniques were more violent than peaceful.

  7. The main purpose of Stride Towards Freedom was to get people to get up and fight without violence to try to receive their equality. Standing back and not doing anything does not help their cause, it only oppresses them further. The same is with violent responses.
The main purpose of Malcolm X's interview was for people stand up against the white oppressors and use violence if needed. A person should not just stand there and take a beating they should fight back and defend themselves just as any normal person would do. He did not want them to start fights.
Malcolm X and King had the same view in that they wanted people to stand up for their freedom and start a movement against their oppression. They were different in that King wanted it to be a completely peaceful movement where you do not even defend yourself where Malcolm X wanted people to defend themselves against any action taken against them in their movements. They are more similar overall because they both want to receive their freedom and want people to stand up for it. The only thing that they have different is that Malcolm wants people to defend themselves while King does not.
Malcolm X's childhood influenced his views as a more hardened defensive actions. Malcolm X had a hard childhood, he lost his father, spent time in jail, and got moved to a foster home. This made him see the bad in people and gave him the mindset of always defending himself. King has a softer approach to end racism because he had an easier childhood. King grew up middle class and even went on to college. He never had a reason to have to severely defend himself. This plays out in his speech with how he wants everything to be peaceful. His cushioned environment made him have a softer view of how to deal with things than Malcom did with his hard childhood.

  8. The main point of “Stride Toward Freedom” is to use peace when violence is coming towards you or your group. For this reason, other people will look at the violent side in a negative light and see how ineffective and useless it was to act out violently towards a peaceful protesting group. MLK’s followers acted out in a peaceful manner whereas the white supremacists were being violent towards them. An example of the peaceful protect was the Birmingham bus protest which cause the bus segregation laws to become ineffective.
The main point of “Necessary to Protect Ourselves” is Malcom X’s ideas about how it is only fair for the black people to act out violently against the white people. He wants the government to act willingly help the black in need instead of just letting things slide. He wanted “his people” to do whatever they thought was necessary to protect themselves from the violent protesters.
The two men took on a religious influence for their dreams of civil freedoms. MLK took on a Ghanaian views, of peaceful protest whereas Malcom X took on a Black Muslims religious view of not only wanting civil freedoms but wanting self-supporting racial groups and he was willing to get that through all costs, including intense violence.
MLK’s life experience was a kid born into a middle class family where he never had to fight for what he wanted. He did not see as much violent happenings in his life, so he did not use violence for his bargaining chip. Where Malcolm X grew up in Harlem in a foster home without real parents. He most likely had to fight, and fight hard, for things he needed, wanted, and later thought that was the only way to get what he wanted. Fighting was necessary to get what Malcolm X wanted, so he believed politics were useless and fighting was the only way to get anywhere with his message.
