  1. It involves Native Americans in the story, and animals are present. People dies/were killed in the other myths that we put. It took places in multiple worlds with his stories. The author's purpose to the story is proving that it is unfair that the Native Americans were punished for defending their land when the white people took over. The author feels bad for what Thomas is going through, as it was displayed by the way Thomas was treated by the other people and the judge. He showed that Thomas felt isolated and the Government was wrong for the punishment that was given to Thomas at the end of the story. Some of the things we talked about were the metaphors. We think that the story about the ponies is actually a metaphor for for the white people capturing and imprisoning the Native Americans. He also talked about how Thomas kept changing his names, and how we might think it is because he is telling different perspectives of what happened. The last important thing we talked about was how he never spoke until the trial arrived, because we don't think he knew English when the Caucasian men came to America.

  2. Metaphors, animals/ nature connection, hyperbole and prophecy.
Whats the authors purpose of the story? The propose of this story is to enlighten people with the issue of racism.
What is the authors attitude towards Thomas builds-a-fire? He has a respect for him and sees him as pawn to the enlightenment.
Towards the government? His reaction towards the government is that they're prejudice towards different races and are very stereotypical. They also feel the need to change their culture and their beliefs.
Three main ideas we talked about- not just about the native people. Two the metaphors are the spirit of the native people. Three his name shows and proves that you only need one person to stand up and speak out and others will follow.

  3. 1. The judge being very informal and being not fair toward Thomas.

    2. Eve defended Thomas even though he did something bad to her. She defended him because she believed that he was innocent even though he had done bad things in the past.

    3. Thomas didn't really kill the soliders in cold blood because they were going to kill him. It just shows how unfair this trial was.

  4. Characteristics: Metaphors, a hero, trickster, hyperboles

    1. The author's purpose was to express how the Native Americans experienced the war, and to show how they felt about being prejudiced by the white men.

    2. The author saw Thomas as being a good person, but was not perfect in any way.

    3. The author saw the government as unintelligent, biased, and corrupt towards the Native Americans.

    - the importance that Thomas just wanted justice on the things that had happened
    - the different stories that Thomas portrayed of the war
    - the purpose for the ponies and why he incorporated them

  5. Kinzie, Camilo, Jake, and Ellie:
The author's purpose is to inform how people of Thomas's background are treated in the Spokane reservation's government clutches.
Alexi seems to feel like Thomas is an example of the uniqueness of the Spokane people and the misunderstanding of them.
He portrays how the BIA/government is ignorant to Native Americans, specifically in the Spokane area.
    Thomas=hero
    Animals
    Imagism
Thomas used the metaphorical story of the ponies as a sort of psychological tactic to "set a fire" to the jury and court system in order to bring attention to inequality and misunderstanding within the government.
